It’s hard to tell if he’s cute or dangerous so it’s best to use caution. With an AR15 as tall as he is I’d venture to guess he’s pretty tough. If you keep up with the blog you’ve already encountered his female counterpart. I suppose a guy could muscle into the lady version of this 5.11 Tactical shirt but it might be a better idea if a lady wears the men’s Tac Gnome Graphic Tee. Was going to let the preview image do the work but this guy just deserves a larger scale display. He’s suited and booted, gloved up and ready to rock. He might even have a chest rig hiding under that epic beard for all we know. I’m being silly because this is just a fun shirt that might even have the power to get the gun grabbers to say “Aww.” Not that that’s any real concern and if you don’t mind being more “out there” when it comes to your job and/or hobby then 5.11 Tactical has a bunch of new for 2013 Graphic Tees that are pretty great. I’d love to post them all here but a couple I’d put at the top of my personal [...]

Trying to stay in the loop here but it seems my loop missed a stop. If I had to guess, I’d say one of the brands that’s been around LA Police Gear the longest is Condor Outdoor/Condor Tactical. Already, ears are perking up and eyes are rolling. To this day, even with a long list of NTOA Approved items, the brand still gets flack and questions fly around regarding its quality. Some loyal, brand fanboys out there might claim their favorite brand has never put out a bunk product and that they’re all top notch. They’d probably be full of it. Every item deserves individual attention and evaluation. Don’t knock it until you try it. At bargain prices, that method comes easier. Based on the dates from some of our customer reviews on this belt I guess it’s been out a while now but again, it’s news to me. I was aware of the “original” Condor Battle Belt but when I wasn’t looking they snuck in the Condor Tactical Gen 2 Battle Belt. When looking at the side by side the differences/improvements are pretty obvious. This updated Condor Battle Belt was designed to 1. provide extra real-estate for modular attache, 2. In [...]

Was going to title this blog “Little Squirt” but that’s typically a phrase for a small person (kid) that tends to annoy you. In today’s case, the small item in question is meant to help and not annoy. Still, someone at Leatherman was fond of the name so a few of their multi tools have been given that label. The latest is the Squirt PS4 Keychain Multi-Tool. This lovely, high-resolution shot really provides excellent detail but my does it make what should be a little Squirt PS4 quite massive. That’s one of the not so wonderful things about communicating in blog land – image scale can be a pain in the rear. There are other ways to get the idea across though – numbers and video. Measurements: 2.25 in | 5.72 cm (closed) 1.9 oz | 56.4 g 1.6 in | 4.06 cm (blade length) Not even two ounces and packed with all of those handy little bits you see. A closed length of 2.25 inches and a knife blade length of 1.6 inches. If the TSA ever gets their stuff in gear and lets you carry something at all, you’ll be able to carry the Squirt PS4.
Call this a delayed reaction to information gleaned shortly after the recent marathon bombing in Boston. Whenever something terrible like this occurs, one of the best things we can do is learn from it. In the years since 9/11 we have learned that American’s are a tough bunch and we refuse to let the acts of a few have us living in fear. Still, we can prepare for potential “What if?” scenarios. More than a year ago, I blogged about Preventable Combat Death and the main causes of said deaths. More than half of those as cited in the data provided were related to extremity hemmorage. If you had any interest in the recent bombing and the damage it caused chances are you saw the images captured shortly after. Due to the placement of the explosive devices, it appeared the majority of the severe injures were to the victim’s lower extremities. Having worked as an EMT and with continued interest in the medical field, I admit I clicked through and examined a number of pictures of the aftermath. The one that sticks out in my mind was in mainstream media photos but might still be graphic for some so I’ll just link it rather [...]

Been holding off on a Hazard 4 post that’s been on my list for quite some time now. Another visit to their website today has me itching again as they keep releasing new things and more colors (looks like OD Green is in the mix). We know Shot Show 2013 is in the books and that’s where some of their new stuff was revealed. I usually like to wait for supply to catch up but we’re already selling out of today’s product so let’s hope Hazard 4 production can keep up. Not your average hoody cause it ain’t one. I guess I gave away the name already but it’s a clever one and now Trademarked by Hazard 4 – the Poncho Villa™ Technical Soft-Shell Poncho. Who said ponchos were old fashioned? Leave it to Hazard 4 to update, modernize and make them totally rad again. Heh, I said rad. An industry first, it should reintroduce a generation to the functional benefits that having no sleeves affords. The poncho can be stuffed into its own front pocket for storage. Hopefully you can make out the outline of the large front pouch there. Anything that packs into itself for convenient storage or transportation [...]

5.11 Tactical Year Round OTC Sock 10013 NEW

Something tells me that unless your name is Cody Lundin that you wear sock year round. My intuition also tells me you’re probably still wearing the crappy, cotton bulk pack socks from some major retailer. I hope I’m wrong about that but if I’m right, get with the program and keep reading/watching. Either that or get to typing “socks” in our search bar. It’s for your own good. Not only will you have socks to take care of you year round, you’ll also be fashionable at the same time thanks to a trio of color choices. Though it appears to come in both crew and over the calf styles our product specialists have decided to offer only the 5.11 Tactical Year Round Sock in the Over the Calf (OTC) variety. I’d have to say this makes sense because those investing in Coyote and Foliage socks are typically doing so as part of a uniform requirement and as such are wearing a pair of matching boots. For the civilians, sometimes it’s just nice to wear a sock that isn’t black or white. What you’re ditching your run of the mill cotton sock for is a 5.11 Tactical sock made of TransDry Cotton which [...]

Time to fill the Thursday blog spot. Truth be told I typically fill this spot with a product I’m less than thrilled about. I hate to call it a filler because I still put in the same effort to learn about the product and to help educate you a bit about it. It’s like the final push to my Friday post which I hope will carry us strongly into the weekend. In addition, since it’s sharing time, I’ll admit I’m familiar with a large number of the brands we carry at LAPG. While it doesn’t seem their being added at quite the rapid rate as in the past, I’ve noticed a few pop up recently. Even when the list of brands is stable, I still fly past some on the list not really knowing what lurks inside. This Thursday post will have me diving into one of those brands. Certainly not just filling space with this product; it’s actually really really cool. You’re looking at the components included in the Wildo Camp-A-Box and in case you missed the preview image they all fit into one convenient, compact package. So who’s Wildo? Simple, functional and durable. That’s what a really good product should be, according to [...]

We only post cool, useful things here on the blog right? I tend to think so and sometimes it takes me a while to pick out something I feel is worth talking about. So what’s the point. Ideally of course, you’d read, get excited about and purchase every darn thing I post about. Clearly that’s not realistic so the point becomes talking about a product in order to provide at least the minimum amount of data and information so that you can make a more informed buying decision. Either that or it introduces you to a new brand or category of gear and gets your own creative juices flowing. At this point you might already be thinking I should get to the point because you saw the preview image and you wan’t to know what knife we’re talking about today. Like I often do, I’ll drop another image first and after telling you it’s from one of my favorite knife brands known for releasing seriously tough knives at some of the most competitive prices. Not the best lighting in this shot but it beats the stock photos from Cold Steel. Here you can get a good look at the blade type and length as well as the smooth [...]

I said I’d try to bring up some more mag pouches this month because I started off calling it Mag Pouch May. After a week off, I’ve got yet another innovative option for you to consider. Again, I’ve chosen some pistol mag pouches because they seem to get less attention. That and I’ve already talked about the rifle mag version in a previous blog post (June 2012). The FastMag Pistol [FMP] is built from the same hi-strength, GhillieTEX™ IR reducing, anti-fragmentation polymer as the original FastMag. The FMP reduces reloading time for the operator and can be mounted in the up or down position. You read that correctly, they can be mounted upside down and still retain your fully loaded magazine. The same can be said for the rifle version. Pretty sure you can’t say that about any other mag pouches on the market. I’ve known about these and seen the images a number of times but I still find myself starying at that image as I type. They just look like a work of art and it’s evident a lot of brainpower went into designing them. The FastMag retention system eliminates the need for traditional top closures, while providing a secure point of [...]

If you haven’t heard about Goal Zero and their lineup of impressive solar charging devices and systems then shame on you. Or would that be shame on me for not telling you about them? I know I’ve blogged about them previously but haven’t given them much screen time. Reason being, it seems to be a very niche product and as such we haven’t been stocking a whole lot of it. Let’s be honest, some people don’t even like to go outside much less spend enough time out there to take advantage of solar power. Add in the fact that it’s some fancy technology packed into very portable devices and things can get pricey. If you are the outdoor type or are looking to see what Goal Zero is all about there are some more affordable ways to get started. Coming in at under $30 is the triple threat Goal Zero Torch Solar Crank Flashlight. First, as you can see displayed prominently is the built in solar panel which is the heart of just about any Goal Zero product. Ideally you’d have the light hanging or stuck somewhere to allow it to absorb UV rays from the sun all day and by sunset you’d [...]
