RECON Shooting Mat

If you saw the preview image and were hoping for a tactical burrito then I’m sorry to spoil your fun. I figured a no-nonsense title would help clarify things and avoid such a situation. I do love a good burrito but they aren’t meant to stick around very long.

Today’s shooting mat is another from the guys at¬†Crosstac. Their Made in USA gear is well built and well thought out. We’ve talked about a few of their products here on the blog within the last year. One of those posts featured another one of their shooting mats, the Crosstac Precision Long Range Shooting Mat.

Crosstac RECON Shooting MatAgain, as today’s blog title indicates, we’ll be talking about a different shooting mat offering which Crosstac calls their RECON Shooting Mat. If it looks like someone at the sew shop screwed up and mixed up patterns they didn’t.

On a piece of gear which will only show one side at a time it makes perfect sense to utilize two of today’s most popular camo patterns – Multicam and A-TACS. It’s clever moves like this that really make Crosstac products interesting.

In contrast to the Precision Long Range Shooting Mat, the RECON was designed for the “lighter is better” shooter. It weighs in at only 1.2 lbs and as you’ve already seen it folds and rolls into an easily packable, trunk-friendly tactical burrito.

The RECON mat makes a great choice for those of us who know we aren’t dedicated long range shooters. Still our 16 inch AR-15 rifles are plenty capable of reaching out and touching targets hundreds of yards away. Whether you end up at the range or out in the back country you’ll be happy to have a clean, stable surface to shoot on.

As you can see, both sides feature sewn-in bipod rails/stops to provide greater stability.¬†Grommets at each corner will allow you to stake it down in windy conditions, flat bungee straps hold it closed in burrito mode and there’s even webbing to allow MOLLE/PALS attachment – lots of useful options in a supremely mobile configuration.

Features:

  • Integral web bipod rails on each side
  • Open size 27 1/2″ wide X 58 1/2″ long
  • Closed size approx. 14″ long x 3″ wide
  • Perfect for shoot and move, bivy, or any mobile application.
  • Dual layers of 500-Denier Cordura, coated inside for water resistance, repellant on outside
  • Panel stitching to prevent fabric movement.
  • 100% Made better in the USA
