When you go outdoors for hiking, camping, hunting, or whatnot, you probably carry all the essentials for that trip: water, food, clothing, tools, and whatever else you could possibly need. What you take with you will largely depend on what you’re doing and where, so it’s nearly impossible to have one go-to kit for all of your outdoors activities. However, no matter which part of the world you’re in and whatever activities you decide to partake outdoors, there’s always one common factor: at one point or another, you’re going to be in the sun.
Even if you wear a hat and sunglasses, a giant chunk of your skin will still be exposed to UV rays from the sun. You might not be prone to easy sunburns, but UV rays will still do damage to your skin cells. What do we recommend? Sunscreen.
LA Police Gear currently lists two types of sunscreen from Sawyer: the 30 SPF and the 50 SPF. These help you protect yourself from harmful UVB rays that are known to have a positive correlation with skin cancer. Not sure which SPF you need? Generally speaking, the higher the SPF, the better protection it will offer. 30 SPF will block about 93 percent of UVB radiation and 50 SPF will block about 97 percent. Apply liberally and keep your skin covered as much as possible with long sleeves or by standing in the shade. Sure, the chances of you developing skin cancer from UV exposure is not astronomical, but when the consequences are great in the event odds don’t favor you, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Have fun and stay safe!
